World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) is an annual global campaign held from November 18–24 to raise awareness about antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and promote best practices to prevent the further spread of drug-resistant infections. The week aims to increase understanding of AMR and encourage collaboration across the public, policymakers, and stakeholders in human, animal, and environmental health
WAAW is celebrated from 18-24 November every year. The theme for the World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) 2024 is Educate. Advocate.
What is World Antimicrobial Awareness Week?
As a result of drug resistance, antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines become ineffective and infections become increasingly difficult or impossible to treat.
- World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) is a global campaign that is celebrated annually to improve awareness and understanding of AMR and encourage best practices among the public, One Health stakeholders and policymakers, who all play a critical role in reducing the further emergence and spread of AMR.
