World Vitiligo Day was first observed on June 25, 2011. The date was chosen to commemorate the birthday of Michael Jackson, the renowned pop star who openly discussed his struggles with vitiligo. The World Vitiligo Day, observed on June 25, is an initiative to build global awareness about vitiligo. Vitiligo occurs in 1-2% of the population worldwide; a change of colour in the skin creates various patterns on the skin from the loss of pigment.
